The pre-existing divorce law was based upon either blaming one person for adultery or unreasonable, or waiting for 2 years or more before being able to apply for a divorce. Under new rules parties will not have to blame each other or wait for such a long period before being able to divorce.
There will be new guidelines, procedures and forms and while all that is worked out the old options remain available.
It is not anticipated that the new rules will come into effect until some time in 2021, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for this long sought change in what is already a very difficult and emotional time for people.
We will keep you updated as new developments and information are released.
